My review and thoughts on ABC

This is a great picture book for learning the alphabet while also enjoying the lovely pictures. The paperback is filled with matt pages of some fun illustrations and text. Every page in this book explores a different letter of the alphabet, showing the letter along with a word that begins with that letter. Like many alphabet books for younger children, this one has some lovely images of the words that are shown, though I especially enjoyed this book due to the characters and unique words used.

The characters and illustration style comes from Rick and Dan: The Secrets of Smart Behaviour, a series of books which I’ve already enjoyed reading the first two of, Road Academy and Fire Safety Basics. This alphabet book features the same characters from the Rick and Dan books and I do love how they all appear in the various pages, doing different things while each single page of the book shows a different letter along with a word that begins with that letter. Rather than the typical items you see in an alphabet book like an apple for the letter A or a book, etc., this one has some unique and different items listed, like Airplane (American spelling), Earth, Knight and Library. Every page of the book is dedicated to one word with an image accompanying the word of that object, and although some of these objects are different to each other, I like the way how many of the images on each page combine to make a double page with some other things to spot when you look around.

I love the Rick and Dan series and I’d recommend those books for their great safety massages, but I also love them as I love how fun the characters look. I love all the anthropomorphic animals dressed up and there’s something so fun and cute about seeing them in this alphabet book, going about their day and doing diferent things. It makes learing the alphabet more fun especially when you recognise various characters from the other books. The illustrations are all so wonderful, so colouful and fun looking, and I’m sure any child will enjoy learning some fun new words while learning their alphabet with this book.
